What should I do if my spouse is hiding assets in our divorce?

While the concept is often shocking to many Detroit residents getting a divorce, some people do indeed attempt to hide assets. Divorce can bring many negative emotions to the forefront. Those who feel angry or bitter about the divorce may want to hide assets just to hurt the other spouse. Other times, people are simply greedy and want to keep wealth and property all for themselves.

Regardless of why it happens, hidden assets in a divorce is one area of family law with which many attorneys are familiar. Fortunately, you are not without power of your own if your spouse is trying to hide property and other assets. The first thing you should do is consider the benefits of hiring a lawyer to assist you. Attorneys have access to resources that may otherwise be unavailable to you. Some of these resources include special technology to track the assets and proven investigative techniques to hunt the assets down.

You can do some of the work on your own. If you have access to family documentation, you can sort through it and find clues to the hidden assets. You may also consider searching your spouse's social media accounts for more clues. Yet another tactic involves a thorough search of your spouse's browsing history.

The takeaway here is that you do not have to sit still and take it if your spouse is keeping assets out of the divorce. Remember, the law is on your side and takes a very harsh stance against the hiding of assets, which is against the law. A well-experienced family law attorney can help you find other ways to search for any assets your spouse may be hiding from you.
