Michigan boutique hotel to open third location in Port Huron

A boutique hotel known for its environmental responsibility has announced that it will open a third Michigan location. CityFlatsHotel’s newest location, in Port Huron, will be in the 90-plus-year-old building that was once home to Sperry’s Department Store.

CityFlatsHotel currently has hotels in Grand Rapids and Holland, Michigan. A representative for the company says that they chose the downtown Port Huron location because of the area’s growth and because they wanted to be in a spot “where you can walk to everything.” CityFlatsHotel’s owner said they envision the hotel as a “new center of activity for the bustling Port Huron downtown.”

Both of the current CityFlatsHotel properties have received LEED Gold certification. In fact, its Holland location was the first Midwestern hotel to do so. The CityFlatsHotel website notes that the LEED certifications are made by the U.S. Green Building Council. The hotel’s site lists a multitude of environmentally-friendly features of its properties. It also notes that more than 30 percent of materials used in its hotels are locally sourced. The site asserts that by staying at a CityFlatsHotel, you can “satisfy your eco-conscience without offending your sense of style.”

The new Port Huron property will resemble the style found in the other two hotels. The interior design will be handled by the company that owns CityFlatsHotel, Holland-based Charter House Innovations. A contractor has yet to be named.

When the urban areas in Michigan’s cities flourish and grow, that growth brings about even more development. Michigan companies whose business planning includes expansion into new markets are wise to consider expanding within the state. Aside from helping to build their Michigan brand and supporting the Michigan business community, they are already familiar with state laws and regulations, which can make the expansion process go more smoothly.
